Radio Code Resource
Well...you can go to the dealer. My local didn't want to take the time (since I had bought a couple units online to replace the funky cassette head unit (alpine AJ2000W) in my '00 XJ8) and didn't have a VIN.
But...quick search brought me to:
JAGUAR RADIO CASSETTE AJ2000W / LNF4100AA ALPINE Car Radio Codes
Yeah, it costs $19. USD each.
You need the serial number (on the bottom of the unit...the digit that starts with (at least for the 2000Ws) JALNAA--------, but, since I had 2 units sitting on my radio workbench, and had dug out the harness pinouts, had hooked up and were testing.
Codes worked. How neat is that? Scribbled them on the top of the radio case with a sharpie.
Yes, you have to pull the radio out of the console, since the serial is on the bottom. But, once you have that...write it down on a sticker, put it in the audio system manual (you have one, right?) for later reference if you need it.
(note: the 19. is less than half of what the dealer told me they'd charge if I had the VIN the radio came from...they were being a bit pedantic about the whole thing...like anyone would nick a 15 year old cassette head unit to put it in their rice racer, right?)
As an additional note...if you're swapping out head units, check the switch on the bottom of the radio case; there's a switch labeled "STD PRM", which selects either the standard or premium (ie with amp/sub) sound system. It was the same head unit for either, so, you should match the switch to what you're swapping out.
I know, most think the stock radio can be improved...but, at the time, the alpine was in the top tier of car audio, and, at the age of 58, 10 years in recording studios, 8 years as a radio DJ and engineer, 10 years as a filght instructor in small aircraft...the stock system still sounds pretty good, IMHO. Of course, my ears may be a bit challenged at this point...
Just thought I'd throw this out there for the corporate memory.
