Default Rear axle shaft nut

Back in April, whilst checking the XJR for its MOT, I noticed some play in the left hand rear wheel.
It transpired that the axle shaft nut had become loose, there being no noise or harshness in the bearing I just re torqued the nut.
Now 1600 miles later, it has become loose again.
The bearing still seems to be OK, no noise or anything.

Should there be some thread lock of some description ?

On some models (mine for example) the rear axle nut is a "one time use only" affair.

I suspect yours is the same and that's why it has come loose.

But I'm no authority on your model. Others will chime in.

Cheers

Thanks Doug, you are correct.
Looked in the JTIS for the torque settings and it states not to reuse the nut.
Strangely, it says to put thread lock on the splines of the shaft, but does not mention its use on the threads.

Will order up new nuts in the morning.

The nut itself has an 'insert' that locks it in place once tightened. That is why there is no mention of threadlocker on the threads themselves.
