Rear brake lights

Hey guys,

I had my fuel pump go out on me and replaced it myself, since then my rear brake lights do not light up but will work if I step on the brakes. Is it possible that I disconnected something and possibly forgot to reconnect it? Or could it be the fuse? and if so where would I find it? Any help would be very much appreciated. Its a 99 xj8. Thanks in advanced.

So the brake lights only come on when you step on the brakes? Obviously I am missing something??

maybe he meant to say the tail lights don't come on, but the brake lights work?

Or maybe he's talking about the front brake lights...no, no, he specified the rear brake lights.

Hahaha, sorry..........When you turn on the lights the rear lights do not come on but the braking lights still work if you hit the brakes.........does this help?? And to markus, the fron brake lights work well on all my cars!

OK, we had our chuckle. Well, you had to take the wiring harness loose for the lights to get the D$#MNed fuel tank out, so YES, I would start with those connectors and make sure you didn't pull a wire from one of them. Then check that you did not skin a wire (near the right hinge?) and if so, fix it and change the fuse. Look up which one in your owner's manual.
