Default rear defrost not working 1998 xj8

Hi, it appears my rear defrost is not working, need to get this sorted before winter hits. In the morning its covered in frost or misted over and i turn on the rear defrost and wait a while and nothing happens.

can someone tell me where the fuse is located or any other checks that might be appropriate?

incidentally i don;t think the thin wire in the windshield is working either, maybe its the same fuse. i can get the front clear though by hitting front defrost and it directs air up to it to clear it.

any help would most appreciated as always.

cheers

First, do the switches light up when you press them?
For the rear, check fuse #17, 25 amp, in the trunk fuse box. Also #16, a 10 amp, LH heelboard.

For the windshield, check fuses 2,15, and 17, all in the engine bay fuse block. Experience says look at the big gray connectors in each corner by the hood latches, that's where the windshield connectors are. A good cleaning doesn't hurt. You can also test for power and ground here when the windshield heat is turned on.
