Rear view mirror fell off windshield

Default Rear view mirror fell off windshield

The rear view mirror on my 2003 XK8 convertible has fallen completely off the windshield. Jaguar says they are not able to reattach it and says I will need to order an entirely new windshield (still waiting on price). Does anyone have any advice?

Before getting the wind shield replace it might be worth to try gluing it back on. You do need special glue, but any DIY store would have it. There are some special mirror glues that are able to attach plastics and metals to glass.

On my Alfa Romeo Spider the latch on the windows of ethe front door are glued to the glass. One fell off.. I tried three different glues, till. Got the one thatorked. It was still a lot cheaper and quicker than replacing a whole window.

Just heard from Dealer. $1100 to replace windshield. I’ll be trying other suggestions first.

you can buy and try an awfull lot of glue for that sort of money!

so I bought a few types of glue. First one I’ve tried is loctite ultra gel. First took metal ring off of mirror and cleaned both surfaces. Then I glued just the metal ring to the windshield with the ultra gel and let that sit for 6 hours then reattached mirror to metal ring. Only been 24 hours but so far so good. Went over some bumps and it’s still up. Will keep you posted
