Refinishing trim & writing trays in VDP?
Has anyone ever attempted this?
In my 2000 VDP I noticed that on some of the pieces that the finish used on some of the pieces was cracked, mainly on the shift knob, some parts on the dash, the writing trays in the back, and on the driver side door. My question is, is it possible to refinish the wood without having to take ALL of it down to bare wood to make sure the colour matches?
On the drivers door, I am not sure if it is just the finish that is cracked, or if it is all the way through the veneer.
Has anyone ever attempted this before?

Send it to this guy:
British Autowood | Dashboard and Woodwork Restoration
or buy new pieces off Ebay, trying to match the grain and color might mean buying an entire set from a donor car.

The usual scenario is that the plastic (acrylic) finish over the veneer has cracked. If the cracks are fine, I've had success with filling the cracks with polyurethane varnish and then varnishing over several times, wet sanding between coats. It is a somewhat painstaking process. That's how I did the door trims. For the dash I found a really nice Vanden Plas set on Ebay.
Shift knobs are widely available on Ebay.
I think the fix depends on how much money you are prepared to spend.
