Default Removing Coils

I was wanting to check the state of the spark plugs before ordering new ones for my 2003 XJ8 (48,500 miles). Tried to remove the coil pack but it didn't want to come out easily and I didn't want to pull too hard.

Is there a knack to pulling off the coils?

Thanks
Tony

I have no special way to tell you how to remove the coil pack easily. When I removed mine I had the bolts removed and lifted the coil pack evenly. I did meet with resistance but it gave way to the constant and even pressure. I had a puller but did not use it. I hope this helps.

Mine, on the other hand, were firmly attached to the plugs. I was able to carefully get them off by twisting and pulling. They are just attached by age and heat.

During the drama envisioned a thin tool that would pull from the bottom, like a carefully crafted coat hanger. Love coat hangers!

I always smear dielectric grease on the inside of the boots before reinstalling.

from my experience you just have to yank them out of there

had the same concern the first time I was pulling mine, worried I was going to break something. Used a combination of the previous posts, even pull with some twisting and they finally came off. The dielectric grease makes it much easier the next time.
