Default Replacing Plastic Shift Assembly cover on 03 XJ8 VDP

Greetings! I just purchased an 03 XJ8 Vanden Plas and the plastic shift cover is almost completely missing due to some serious cracking. The only letter left on the Module is the P. I want to know if it is possible to just replace the plastic cover on the module rather than the entire module? I have seen some posts regarding this issue, but I have not found any clear instructions. Does anyone know of a youtube video? I watched a few videos but did not find a clear video on just replacing the plastic cover on the module. I do not want to replace the entire unit, when only the cover is damaged. Does one have to remove the entire unit to replace the cover? I was hoping to just have to remove the screw on the top, and put a new cover on. I found a used module on ebay that appears to have a cover in good shape, and I would like to order it if there is a procedure to replace. I just signed up to the forum and I would appreciate any info anyone could provide.

Thanks

Chris

It is pretty easy to replace.

Do you have JTIS on your computer ? If not then download it from the links in the stickys at the start of the forum.

All you need to do is Lever off the Gear selector surround gently.
Disconnect the battery from the car.
Undo and remove the gearlever knob and ferrule.
Remove the switch(s) on the gear selector.
Undo the nuts holding the black plastic retainer and remove the retainer (can't remember if you need to remove the skislope or the retainer first). The ski slope comes off pretty easily using a plastic trim remover to lever up the end nearest the gear selector.
Once this is off you might have enough space to disconnect the cable to the damaged shift cover. Then just undo the screws holding on the damaged part and removed. Reassembly is just the reverse.

good luck
