The difference apparently is in the rear door wood panels. The door is longer and so is the wood.

@ Burmaz: Wood

All the wood in X308s is real, Jaguar has first choice of all the wood veneers before any other company, including Rolls Royce. It is then hand cut and fitted to the metal backing plates by a skilled master craftsman, and the veneer is twinned which is something else only Jaguar, Bentley and RR do.

The wood in the VDP models is slightly special because of the wooden inlays and the VPD logo, which is also wooden. The Burr is of a slightly different pattern, but the colour will totally depend on the wood chosen by the original buyer of the car.

Hope this helps. S.

JaguarXJR02,

The difference to the colour can be and probably is attributable to sun exposure. My partner has two steering wheels on the shelf off identical model X300 cars. One is still quite dark, the other looks almost like Beech. The only other difference between them is the fine cracks in the wood on the lighter one.

Cheers,

Languid

So what is this "twinned" exactly?

Is that the same as "book matched" ? I know my old SIII XJ6 had book matched wood. You could see where each half of the dash was a mirror image of the other side with a split in the middle. I also have some antique furniture like this.

Yes I meant Book Matched, the use of the word twinned is due to my Liverpudlian manner of speaking, and it was the word my Granddad used to describe Book matching. He was also a Master Carpenter.

What a shame, great car. I worked in a body shop off and on, IMO that is a light hit. We repaired much worse! I would try and fix it myself. Just because the rear door is jammed up it doesn't mean frame damage and even then it could be fixable with a light pull. Used parts can be found for some decent prices if you search used parts suppliers that specialize in Jags and other high end car parts will charge top dollar. I have seen complete Jags with blown motors and/or transmissions for sale for less than what the parts would cost you. It really all depends on how much you like the car and if you want to spend the time and money on it also what the Insurance co will want for it in most cases these cars are worth more in parts than as a whole. The other problem is the car will have a salvage title so it will never be worth top dollar again.

Well, where some see a shame in that the ins. co. wrote it off, others see a good motor, seats, wood, etc. It may be a total loss to the ins. co. but it is a bounty for the buyer.
