Default searching for a proper cup holder

I have been working on options to hold my travel coffee mugs for my morning commute because if I use the ones in the arm rest my mugs do travel - right into the back seat on the first turn.

I tried adding a plastic ring to the top of the arm rest cup holders and this worked OK but I had to remove the ring each time to close the cup holders

I also tried modifying a cup holder to fit into the center storage under the arm rest. This worked great but I have to leave the arm rest open which is not comfortable to rest my arm on.

The latest attempt works great and positions my mug perfectly. The clip slips right in between the console and the gear shift trim. Foam tape underneath protects the leather. It does not touch the passenger seat.

This is just a prototype but is the best solution I have found so far.

Has anyone else tried options for a cup holder

Ed

I've also had a drink fly into the passenger seat during a turn. Huge Mess, thank goodness for easy to clean leather. Those cup holders are not really designed well for Holding a drink. I've just stopped drinking and driving, and all is well now. Fewer DUI's too.

Just kidding, I've never liked alcohol.

I have a 40 minute commute to work and enjoy drinking my coffee - I just don't like wearing it. I may try making a new piece for the armrest cupholder that has a single center hole in place of the 2 wings on the end. It will only hold (a good thing) 1 cup but it will still fold away

I gave up on the cup holder long ago. Since it couldn't hold a drink, I decided to convert it to a mount for my Sirius Sattellite Radio receiver. Flips up and fits perfectly as an option to mounting somewhere where it is visible. I had to actually remove the cupholder and cut away some of the plastic to make room for it, but it turned out very well. Hidden from view when not in use and doesn't spoil the factory look of the interior.

I will post pictures of it this weekend. Unfortunatelty I can only show the finished product since I did not take an pictures of the mods while I was doing the install.

I just jam my travel mug (with a cover) down in between the passenger seat and the console........solid.
