Security Locking Control Module - FIXED

Security Locking Control Module - FIXED
The Security Locable Control Module (SLMC) has blown in my car. It had some minor water damage, and is now not usable. I can find the same part number from other places, but I understand there is something about the VCATS number that has to be alligned to the module or the car.
Can anyone shed any light on this topic. A new one is about 600 dollar (NZ$1500), so getting a second hand one is preferable.
If anyone has actually replaced their SLMC it would be great to hear from you.
Please let me know.
Cheers
Arthur

I had mine replaced with a new one several weeks ago. The cost of the Module was A$948.09.
I was told that they have to download information from the original Module onto a computer then transfer it to the new Module for it to work.
Since having this done I have had no problems.
My old Module was not repairable, but would still have cost approx. A$450 to repair.

Any module will do, it's just the fact that you'll need to have it programmed to the car with Jag proprietary hard/software, either local dealer (Preston?) or find a good indie Jag specialist with the 'IDS' system, buy a second hand unit and have it programmed.
For true plug and play, you'll need the exact item number you've posted, meaning no re-program bill...it's down to how much you want to spend, isn't it?
Who have you contacted about this part? there are a lot of breakers out there....you could spend all day ringing, eventually you should luck out, again how much time do you want to spend?
Hope this helps!

Some modules will be destroyed if you try to configure like a new module when it is not. An S-Type PTEC powertrain module is one example. If you try to configure it to a second car, it's junk. A second VIN cannot be burned into that module; there's a way to make it work, but it will never be "right" 100%. For instance that car would never pass a required Gov't inspection because of the VIN mismatch.
The point is, every attempt to employ a used module is a unique case, sometimes it can be done, sometimes it can't. In any case, the procedure to do it is likely different.......and critical, to avoid additional expense.
Just a little advice.
Cheers,
