Default Serpentine belt tensioner snapping

1999 VDP SC.

During these cold mornings, the belt "sticks" to the tensioner, the tensioner lifts back, then snaps down. It goes away after a few minutes.

I remember something about this, but couldn't find any info.

Is there an easy fix, or even a fix?

Thanks,
Rob

Sounds like your belt may be in need of replacement? From your description, the looseness of the belt is allowing the tensioner to load and snap on recoil.

I fought this problem off and on for a long time. Every belt I tried had memory spots after the car sat for a while, especially in cooler weather. When I would start the car, the memory spots on the belt made the tensioner slam for a couple minutes until the belt softened up. Sounded like the engine was coming apart!

I bought a Contitech belt from a friend’s recommendation, and I never had the problem again. Here’s the eBay item number of the belt I bought: 132232637016.

I tried OEM Jaguar belts (twice), Gates, and at least one other brand before a friend said to buy a Contitech. Hopefully you’ll have the same luck!

I did not have this particular problem with my belt, but I did have problems finding the correct belt length wise! With the help of this forum managed to find at long last the correct length belt, so the tensioner, after belt replacement is in the correct position, once again.
