Question Supercharger Belt wont go on

I have had my XJR apart for a while and i cant get the supercharger belt on. Its almost like the belt has shrunk while it was off the car. Is there any trick to stretching it out so it will go on? I have the tensioner as far as it will go with no avail. It is a gates belt.

It should go on quite easy. Make sure you routed the belt correctly around the crank and idler.

I remember mine being quite tight, even with the tensioner fully released. I used a 3 ft extension on the tensioner, making it easier to release, which helps a bit.

Try starting with the belt fully seated on all the pulleys except the top supercharger one, then work the belt around that with the tensioner released.

There should be plenty of slack to slip it over the supercharger pulley. I use a 2' breaker bar but need to persuade it to clear the back of the fan housing.

If you have the original poly-groove and smooth sided belt then you should route the belt around all the pulleys except the smooth IDLER. Then slip the belt over the IDLER LAST.
