Default service manual

Can anyone tell me what would be the best service manual to buy for a 2000 XJ8. I have had huge bad luck buying CD ROMs off of E Bay, generally 15 or 20 bucks. But they only give instructions as to say, location of battery. I would glady pay more for a manual that I could really use. E Bay is a great service, I just dont know the right seller. Any ideas? Thanks

I found a JTIS manual on e-bay. It covers several models & years.
Also, there are download links to JTIS at the top of the General Tech Help forum. Perhaps give that a try

And why isn't there any actual paper books service manuals for these cars? I can't find a paper copy anywhere.

Because not enough cars were made. Publishers would only sell a couple of thousand books which is not a commercial proposition.

go to Christo's JTIS thread - you can download from there - works up to XP, not Vista or Win7. On eBay there's a newer version that does work in Vista (I have installed it and it does work with my Vista machine) and, I've been told, Win7 32bit - but it does not work in Win7 64 bit (which I have tried unsuccessfully).

OR- Get an Alldata.com subscription, about $30.00 for 3 years and get something you can search and find the stuff for your car without searching through four years worth of poorly indexed stuff. I use both and I guarantee the $30.00 is well spent! (Usual no affiliation blah, blah, blah)

Wow, only $30 for 3 years? Yes, I'd say that was worth it then! I always expected it to cost about that for 1 year... I'll be getting it now.

Yep, actually I was wrong. The first vehicle is $25 fior one year and $45 for 5years now, but additional vehicles are $30.00 for 5, and since I have a subscription for all of mine, that was the number I remembered

Still, at 5 years, a good price.
