Default Severe water leak

Hey group, I changed the thermostat in the XJR two days ago and my "thermostat malfunction code" is gone and the engine runs at the proper temp.

Now the leak, it has bee losing coolant very slightly for a few months, no puddles but I could smell it around the expansion tank. Now the large hose just behind the thermostat is leaking bad and there is a large puddle that seems to be dripping off of where the engine and bell housing meet. I'm figuring its the hose(s) that run under the intake.

So now it looks like its time to remove, clean, refresh and replace all the hoses. Any pit falls to look out for? I figured I'd change the knock sensors and anything else under there that is a common failure point.

Any input is appreciated, also if anyone has a good supplier of the parts I'll need that would be a great help as well. I usually use Coventry West but am always on the look out for a good value.

Thanks in advance and I'll let you know how it goes.

I just changed that hose on a XKR and it's not fun. I almost ended up removing the supercharger, which is what you are going to have to do for a complete hose change. There are two hoses that go under the supercharger.

Check the sngBarratt.com online catalog and also rockauto.com for replacements.

For help in doing the replacement use the search function and also download the JTIS21 factory manual from the Sticky at the top of the forum page.

Remove the supercharger, change out the hoses/thermo/water pump/valley hoses and change out the supercharger oil while you are at it, may as well get those pains all out of the way at once.

I had the same problem losing coolant slightly for a few months. I could not find any leaks and if there was one, it had to be a pinhole leak. But even a pinhole leak would leave some residue since coolant does not dry up. The only conclusion was the expansion tank cap not holding the pressure and/or the seal is going bad. I got a new cap from the dealer. Problem solved!
