Does front and rear shock replacement on a 2003 xj8 sport for 1200.00 seem fair? Using Monroe shocks.

Hi ronneuell41,

Welcome to the forum!

I've done all my own shock replacements so I don't know what it should cost to have a shop do the work, but I would think that a mechanic familiar with an X308 could do both front shocks in an hour or less, and both rear shocks in 2 to 3 hours tops, for a total of 3-4 hours labor.

I assume that since you are considering Monroe shocks, your car does not have the adaptive CATS suspension. A quick search for non-adaptive shocks at Rock Auto shows Monroe rear shocks at USD $52.79 each. They don't show a Monroe front shock, but they carry a KYB at $55.70 each. That may be enough information for you to decide whether USD $1,200.00 is reasonable, but perhaps others who have paid for this work will offer their own opinions. They may also have opinions about the performance of Monroe shocks compared to the originals (Bilsteins?).

Please visit the New Members Area and post an introduction so we can all know something about you and your car:

I have a 2000 XJ8 how would I know if I had the CATS suspension?

There is an electrical connection to the top of the shocks for CATS suspension.
