Default Which SHOCKS would you suggest for a 2001 VDP?

Hello Gentlemen:

Do any of you recommend one of these shocks over the others? I’m going to replace my fronts.

Monroe 39028 Sensa-Trac Monotube Shock Absorber

Or

KYB KG5783 Gas-a-Just Monotube Shock Absorber

Thank you for your input!

I believe the Monroe's you listed are for the rear...
The shock selection for XJ8/VDP's is rather slim...
You got KYB's, Bilsteins, and OEM's, that's about it... Looking at some APX shocks on eBay at the moment, but they seem rather "cheap" for what I would think Jaguar would need...

I personally recommend staying with OEM or Bilstein which I believe is the OEM. Are yours CATS, or comfort suspension?

They must be definitely talking about Jaguars in particular:

Bilsteins are known worldwide as THE performance shock, where keeping the tires in contact with the payment is important, no matter if it's a street machine or a weekend racer.

Personally use OEM (Bilstein) as Midlife mentions - I've got the cats system, so not really an option.

Good question. I'm not sure. Anyone else know what the stock shocks are for the 2001 VDP?

Thanks

SirJag: I believe it would be comfort suspension, JAG P/N: MND2140AD.
Welsh 1-800-875-5247 has Bilsteins P/N: F4-BE3-2372-HO for 139.00+/-. I just ordered a pair. Most of the threads here indicate that Bilsteins are OEM, as already mentioned. Good luck.

Afterthought: Just as important as the new shocks is the bushing kit for the top end of shocks. 85.00 from Welsh or Ken @ British Auto Parts. Chances are your bushings are shot as well.

Can shocks/bushings be done at home or is special equipment needed?

ant17: Although I have yet to do mine, parts in waiting on good weather, and time. This job can be done at home. There is a good picture link somewhere here, I've printed out. If you place the body on a jack stand and work the lower control arm with a floor jack, it's doable. Try some searches on this subject.
