Default Should I drive knowing the A drum needs replacing?

Recently had main seal replaced and car was driving even better than before. After my wife drove the car for a week I was out of town, I noticed when shifting there was a little jolt into Drive. Nothing in Reverse. Also when pushing a little in acceleration from 2nd to 3rd there was a slip and also a a slight jolt in downshifting from 3rd to 2nd. Local reputable transmission guy who works on Jags, BMW, MB says it's the drum that's going and needs replacing. He's recommending a rebuild with a upgraded drum and estimates the entire job at $2000. Love my car and don't want to sell it but is it wise to drive knowing it could fail? At least until I save the $$$ to fix? Would it cause any further damage to the engine if it completely fails and engine goes into limp mode? Is this a reasonable price for this repair? When I bought the car at 175k they said tranny had been replaced which the mechanic confirmed on the main seal replacement.(at 180k). Would driving in Sport mode help or hasten this deteriorating condition? Thanks for the input and advice.....

Pieces of the drum could cause serious damage if it disintegrates, so further driving is not wise. That's a good price, as long as you trust his work.
