To sport or not
About the only time I don't have it there is on long drives of 100 miles+. Other than that, from the time I'm in the driveway until I get back, she's in it. Hey, ..you never know when that Lexus 460 will stalk you.

Today I actually did a "quick" comparisson of S-on vs. S-off on the Autobahn. From a standstill the S-on does aid acceleration as it allows the engine - at least in NA form - to actually HIT the revlimiter (which kicks in quite hard considering it is a luxury vehicle of a few decades ago). As I couldn't get my GPS counter to work, I had to meaure the Mississippi method but came to a result, that the S-on would give me 0-200 km/h (125 mph) about 4 seconds quicker as compared to S-off. Of course this is not recommended in countries with speed limits.
A few factors which could interfere:
Dry roads but -3°C (no ice here yet!)
Rather "narrow" tires (225)
Running on E10
Engine a tad on the hot side according to the gauge (probably a dieing waterpump)
No inclines
No traffic or lane changes (drove on the right, as the law requires)
AC and other loads (apart from headlights) were off
Biggest effect though would be the low temperatures as that will give a better cylinder filling, as the air is more dense.

Very rarely. The supercharged engine has so much torque you rarely need more oomph, and if you do there is always the kick down switch to summon the fury.
A few reasons i prefer it off,
1) 1st gear is useless as it just spins wheels.
2) It wont shift into 5th gear until you hit 2000rpms which is ~50mph. So if your in traffic doing around 40mph it stays in 4th gear, where as in regular mode it will shift up into 5th at about 1500rpms. Seems to make no difference to economy, but its just more relaxed when commuting.
3) Shifting up/down is much smoother with sport mode off.

It was passengers that made me think about it, up until then I ran with S most of the time, but then being called 'Surge' didn't suit
I agree on the points above, it's a more civilized drive without, particularly since I did a solenoid update on the transmission, shifts are a *lot* more pronounced.

Do you have your posi off Andmars? I really have to lay into mine to spin my tires even a little. But then again I am using the soft Michelin SS's and I tend to leave a slight "11" in my rear view as they grab pavement.
If my posi is off, I can blow my right tire off, but I can count the $ spin off too....lol

I assume you mean the traction control, yes i generally do turn it off. On a greasy roads it wont let you use any power to get out of junctions, better to have a little wheel slip and forward motion.
