Starter motor
Hi new here I'm looking for a bit off advise. Got a 1998 xj8 308. Starter has given up the ghost. Does anyone know what's involved in changing it. Seen some reviews where it says you have to remove the steering rack. Is this so or is there away round it.
Thanks
Thanks
The starter has probably not given up the ghost. Rather, the copper contacts in the
solenoid have burnt up. These can be replaced with new contacts costing under
10 GBP from a Toyota dealer. You will need to match up the parts visually at the
Toyota counter because there are 3 common types.
To see tutorials of the job, search DENSO STARTER REPAIR on the internet.
If you take this approach and get a successful match, please post the part numbers
and pictures of the old and new so that other members can just go and buy the
parts. Myself in particular to have a set in the toolbox for the invevitable because
the job itself is under 30 minutes if in a rush and the parts are in hand.
As for the PS rack, I don't recall thinking that it was in the way when I was last
there to clean the cable connections.
