Question Starting Issues

Hello, Ive been having starting issues with my 1998 Xj8, these issues are SOMETIMES when I start my car-I turn the key to Start and nothing happens. All the lights go out but no turn of the starter motor. I have to remove the key and retry several times untill finally the starter motor ticks over. I do not believe the problem is within the starter motor because of how it works when it turns, but maybe an issue deep within the bowels of the computer itself. Has anyone else have this rather peculiar issue with their big cat?

Do you have another key? There is a security transponder that can get dodgy- or the switch that activates the security system can fail intermittently.
Good luck.

Try wiggling the shifter while you hold the key.
