GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR noise when turning right. Not left. Started today.

a groan a whine or a knock?

Passenger side wheel bearing is my guess. Have the same thing happening, will be changing mine tomorrow after work. Already did the driver's side to narrow the noise down, and now it's definitely the passenger side making the rest of the sounds.

Just had a passenger side wheel bearing go bad on one of our other cars, with similar symptoms. Groaning/grinding noise only when turning right, even just slightly.

It might be worth checking the power assistance fluid level before getting into a wheel bearing...

+1 Check power steering fluid. Had this problem on my 325IS, years ago. Pretty sure it was wheel bearings, took it to an Independent in Fairfax VA to see what it would cost to get rid of the groaning noise. About $5: he checked the PS fluid and it was dry. Felt pretty stupid; the guy I sold it to drove it another eight years w/o any issues.

I always noticed a difference between the power steering whine, and a bearing hum. However, also roll your windows down, and come to right hand corner, like an intersection that you know you can turn without actually stopping. Come slow, and listen for any sounds from the right front, something akin to a brake pad dragging or something. You MIGHT be able to feel something in your foot from underneath, but hard to tell.

I also hear a hum when going driving. it is pretty loud.

I should also mention, that I went for a ride yesterday, with a full car, and it was much more pronounced than when the car is empty. But if you haven't yet, check your bearings, and anything else you can think of in that right front corner, like brakes and calipers and such too.

I should check that Wednesday as it is raining like hell till then.

Like pinning the tail on a donkey! Now we have a constant hum - that's a wheel bearing mate.

Just to check in - replaced my wheel bearing, and indeed the hum is completely gone. Hopefully yours sorts out just as simply!
