Default Steering wheel memory positioning

Hi,
New to this forum and new to Jag. In my '97 XK8 I found that the best position for my steering wheel is out a bit and down a bit. I programmed this position into my seat memory module. When I put my ignition key in the ignition, sometimes the wheel comes out but not down. Sometimes down but not out. Sometimes it does exactly what it's supposed to do.
When it doesn't do what it's supposed to, I take the key out and try again until it does, which is usually on the second try. The car only has 60,000 miles and spent a lot of time just sitting in a garage, being driven occasionally.
Any ideas as to what is going on here?
Thanks!

From memory the driver positioning is stored in the drivers door module. How old is the battery?
I'd suggest a hard reset by disconnecting the neg cable on the battery and go grab a coffee. On reconnection, re-program the seat to your position, I did all 3 memory settings to my driving style and run the entry/exit on, it works like a charm.

If this doesn't get it - time to look deeper...

Thanks, Sean. The battery is, I believe, about four years old. Just out of curiosity, does disconnecting the battery have any other implications such as resetting performance or other computers?
Thanks!

It puts the car's programs back to default, it also re-calibrates the throttle body. It can be disconcerting - on initial startup after the reset the engine rpm's go up to around 1800rpm then decays back to almost stall. Leave it to idle and settle down to it's 'happy place' for 5 mins then take it for a drive.

Hope this helps.

I would find a position that you like and turn the auto set feature off. If you don't, sooner or later the reach motor is going to go.

Mine had sporadic performance like yours and that is what I did.
