Default Still cant keep my 2001 Jaguar XJ8 VDP running.

Morning all! To recap the situation some. Thanks to all of my mates here I was able to catch my tensioners before they became a real bother. So we replaced everything (tensioners/chains/water pump/thermostat etc..) All went well until we wanted to try the car out. The car starts fine...runs for a few minutes then cuts out. Then it is difficult to get started again. We changed the fuel pump relay thinking that was the culprit...didnt change a bloody thing...next we are heading to change the fuel filter and the fuel pump....I am looking for ideas of what else I should look at it...I did check the fuel switch cut off..that seems to be fine aswell. The VDP has 120k on it..this is the first issue it has ever given me aside from a thermostat issue. I am quite serious when I say this is the best damn car I have ever owned. Any input is always appreciated. I am simply at a loss now of what else I should be checking...thanks to my mates here...you are a clever bunch indeed! CHEERS!!!!

Crownewourth:
I suggest you take a different approach. Instead of changing parts, diagnose the problem. As an example, you COULD buy about $200.00 worth of parts, spend 2 + hours on replacing the fuel pump and filter (if you are fast and lucky) OR buy a good fuel pressure test guage ( $55.00)with a 1 meter hose, connect it (5 minutes) and read if you have a steady 40 psi (2.7 bar) or so fuel pressure. Yu then know whether or not you have a fuel delivery problem, for sure, without doubt.
Other diagnosis is not as cheap nor as well defined, but fuel delivery is.
Good luck.

Thanks Ross...I think we are headed in that direction actually..I had a question..do these cars have 2 fuel pumps ( I didnt think so) however it was posed to me by the mechanic that is helping me with the car...I dont mind changing the fuel pump actually..I just wondering if there is something else I should look at

adembins is exactly right. No one stupid statement from a mechanic should impeach his work, but you have already learned now not to take the fellow's word as absolute. The XJ8 has one pump.
Check the fuel pressure. It is a trivial effort!

Crownewourth: Check my suggestions in your newer post - should help you deal with the lack of 12V at the fuel pump fuse.
