Default Stone shield

All:
So I'm on the freeway two days ago and the forward black plastic stone shield underneath the engine, covering the radiator etc., decided to let go. Scared the cr*p out of me, but neither the car nor I seem any worse for the wear. Should I just leave it or try to find a replacement? I've heard of some folks leaving them off intentionally to make the cars easier to work on; but I gotta figure that it was put there for a purpose in the first place.

I realize it's not a big deal, but I thought I'd ask. Thanks!
Scott

The plastic underneath the radiator, and the rest, is actually important. It directs the airflow toward some of the components, and one of them is the alternator, which tends to overheat without the plastic (on some cars). It has to do with the changed airflow, if the plastic is removed.

I would find the pieces on the junkyard, and reinstall.

Personal choice Scott, I think as I see many varying different cars both with & without these in place.

Personally, mine is in place and if it weren't I'd replace it as soon as was reasonably practical........there for a reason for sure.
