Default Steering column issue - yes I searched.

My steering column problem is a little different from what I have read in a few posts here, but I am curious if the solution is the same (motor or reach cable)

My column goes in and out fine, goes down fine but to go up, I have to keep pressing up, let go, press up, etc. It only goes a small amount at a time up but all other directions work fine.

Where should I start?

I probably replaced 50 or more for this fault when I worked at the dealer when these cars were new.

You can try to clean the potentiometer but if you want it to function you will need to replace it.

So it's the pot most likely?

Could you explain a little further Bob? I'm having the exact same issue and would love to get it solved. I'm getting sick of the memory trying to cut my legs off because it can't bring the wheel up into the proper position.

What is actually wrong? I would like to repair the fault and possibly improve any flaws versus just grab another unit and put it in.

I guess i'm getting mixed signals here. So potentiometer, which isn't technically a potentiometer or entire tilt motor assembly, which seems excessive as the entire unit can't go bad beyond repair.

The POT goes bad and there is NO replacement part available from Jaguar. (sensor NSS)
If you want to disassemble and repair then you can do that.

Jaguar sells the entire tilt motor assy.

That's what I needed to know, rebuilding/redesigning the pot seems like the best bet to avoid failure again.

You can find them on Ebay. Sometimes they are included when buying a clock spring.
$60 may get you a spare clock spring, turn signals, column controls .
