Suspension Fault
2003 xjr running fine with no problems. Suspension Fault shown in the odometer display.
A week ago I found packrat damage to left headlight wiring after I got a trac control, stability control message. After I repaired the damaged wiring, the message went away. I did a pretty solid search for additional wiring damage at the time.
I have a crappy acutron code reader that shows no codes. Occaisionally I get a code for the fuel level sensor, but all of my European cars have a problem measuring gas levels lately.
Anyone know what trips the Suspension Fault code?

try the other thread for the newer XJ350 series, I have posted on there and the UK site as well, you will see it is a common problem on the earlier cars from 2003 and 2004, nomally the compressor or shocks.
My car does not have an air suspension, but has a variable valve that is controlled by a computer mounted on the "bulkhead," from what I hear. The computer gets data from two accelerometers, front to rear motion and side to side motion, and makes a decision about whether or not to stiffen the suspension. If it decides that I am driving agressively enough, it stops appling five volts to each wire that feeds the top of the shocks, causing an internal valve to constrict the fluid exchange, and firm up the shock and ride. So, absent the voltage to the shock, the shock is in extreme performance (buckboard) mode.
I would really appreciate any information about where I can look for an abraded wire, or something like that, that is causing this fault. Also, where is that little computer...

Ahh, sounds like CATS system them. Not sure about the specifics, XJRs and XKRs have them, but again...not familiar. Try a search again using CATS and see what you can find. Maybe add to an existing thread for more help. good luck John.
I had a loose connection between the sensor and shock on my XJR, that caused the "suspension fault" error to show.
To rectify it I just removed the black plastic protector thingie in the engine bay removed the connector and reattached it.

Hey guys, I have a 1999 Jaguar XJR and i gotta tell you that i wont buy parts from the dealer any more. I bought a fuel level sensor and a couple of shocks from a web store and i cannot be happier. The prices are so low. Try it out guys and stop giving money to the dealers, they are making so much money already. qeautparts.com. I recommend it. Good luck guys.
random post 4pedro, but it contributed absolutely nothing to this thread, nor debated anything within it. I almost deleted it.
Since you mentioned it, yes dealers have higher parts prices than say any other supplier, but they also support the dealership's overhead and generate revenue for the dealer. I'd say I buy 50/50 dealer vs internet source. Each situation is going to be different and can't be blanketed with the 'I'll never buy parts from a dealer again'. To do so is just silly.

They guy that works there knows a little about the parts, and has been very helpful to me. Also, when you need the right part the first time, like with all the different variations in pulleys, there is no substitute for the dealer. My experience has been that on many items I save nothing on the net. I would bet I buy 50-50 as well, and have been doing that with Jaguars since 1984.
