sync error on OBD even after new rebuilt ECM - SMOG
Hi All, I just replaced (rebuilt ECM from reputable company) my engine control module in the hopes I could clear a "no sync" message on my OBD. [It goes through all the steps and gets to the ISO protocol but will not read the error codes and gives me the dreaded "no sync" message]. The car runs perfectly and had passed all emissions measurements but had this sync error so it was an automatic failure. At this point I suspect a loose or broken wire to the port. I need to finish the registration (California) to use it legally. I have found one general service that specializes in auto electrical issues that i might try. Generally independent auto repair garages don't want to touch anything but simple tasks such as replacing brakes - especially for a xj8 2000 (looks and drives like new). I dread going to a Jaguar dealer! Am fustrated in the extreme. Any help or comments are gratefully appreciated.
Thanks, Bill
PS: The new ECU mo dule had all correct codes flashed to in to it (plug and play service) by Module Experts of Jacksonville Florida. Also, the jag reader at my local mechanic had no problem reading the ECU through the same port using the old module. I am wondering if I need to drive it to generate data for the ECU as XJPurr did in the referenced string? The car is an XJ8 2000 with 194K miles - always maintained. The VIN is: SAJDA14C6YLF16533

These cars can be difficult to read without specifically made to older jags. I tried to read my car with very reputable TEXA supercar tester. Tester made codes in to the modules instead of reading them. Have you tried to read basic generic obd stuff with any cheap o tester ? Just for kicks.
