Default HELP - Error Message PECUS T

I have a 2000 XK8. The car has been running great. In fact the car is still running great, except I have a PECUS T message on the in dash display with flashing yellow and red warning indicators. There are no other negative symptoms. The car starts fine. The car runs fine. The car seems to shift fine. I have no noticeable seat of the pants type transmission problems while the car is moving.

Nothing unusual happened prior to the error. Used the car. The car sat for about a week. Went to start the car and the error was there. No accidents, no bumps, no dead battery, nothing.

My mechanic is advising I may have to replace the transmission ECU. This is big $$. What should I be checking? What options might I have? All suggestions are appreciated.

and if he replaces the TCM, how is he going to program the new 1 so you still dont have pecus t?. I would have the tcm reflashed with IDS at the dealer. why it happened...I cant answer that 1
a pecus error is a loss, or no programming for said module. seat module, body processors, tcm, ecm etc....

Thanks for the information. These computer type errors really scare me because replacement parts get crazy expensive.

If you are needing to poke at something, try removing the connectors between the tranny, especailly the one on the tranny itself, and the ECU and spraying electronics spray in them. There may be some corossion causing a bad reading in this low voltage circuitry. Look at th eharness while you're at it for any damage.

Finally brought the car in to the dealer. I have been advised that the transmission control unit is bad and needs to be replaced. A TCU was swapped with another vehicle that is in for repair and the problem went away. The original was swapped back in and the error came right back on. I am looking at a $3,000.00 repair any source for used/rebuilt/cheaper TCU? Thanks
