Working on a 1998 Jaguar xj8 and I broke a vent or vacuum line off the black canister mounted on the throttle body Trying to order a new part but I don't have a clue what it called or what it does Can someone shed some light on this

I don't have this model but the salvage yards are a source beyond E - bay

What was it ?

 

It’s a cruise control vacuum canister. If it didn’t work before and you don’t care that it doesn’t work, then there’s no further action needed. I’ve not replaced one of those canisters before so I can’t be of any guidance on it.

 

Back when I worked at the dealer (when these cars were new) Jaguar stopped taking the throttle assys. in warranty if the vacuum nipple was broken.
Too many people were snapping them off and then trying to claim a warranty part as replacement. (DENIED)

The throttle speed control vacuum actuator is NSS from Jaguar.
It is part of the throttle and I have not seen it available separately.
