Default Broken tensioner bolts

Just broke two secondary tensioner bolts while torquing. First was going to 14nm and second to 10nm and neither made it anywhere near that. Are my bolts just crap? Bought from “Jaguar Timing Kits”

Bolts too long? (original plastic tensioner bolts?)

The aluminum body secondary tensioner bolts need to be replaced with the shorter bolts OR at least trim the original.

I understand that, for the first bolt, you set the Torque Wrench at 14 Nm and the bolt broke before reaching this value and that, for the second bolt, you set the Torque Wrench at 10 Nm but the bolt broke again, even before reaching just 10 Nm.

These bolts, M6, are normally torqued to 10 Nm but for the secondary tensioners 12 Nm is specified. The bolt should still not brake even at 14 Nm and certainly not at 10 Nm. Perhaps there is something wrong with your Torque Wrench?

Jaguar timing kits sells rebadged ebay kits . I have cheap ebay kit and jaguar timing kit yet worse even Christopher uses rebadged ebay timing kits . However my blue jag have eBay secondary tensioner it's about 2 years now working fine. Get tensioners from authorized ford dealer this is the safest way imo

their whole business model is upcharging people who don’t know any better or are too lazy to make the kit themselves

honestly I didn't know they're fake unfortunately they have good reputation here, I had old thread comparing cheap ebay tensioner and Christopher tensioner they were same . The original jaguar or ford is different . Most 99$ jaguar ford ebay kits are fine to use except the timing chain is very low quality . Iwes makes chains for good price can't remember who sells it I think autouhausz or another store

i agree. i’d actually reuse the original (iwis) chain it saves time and they never have any wear to them

money is better spent getting the right primary guides instead
