Tensioners and a word of warning.

Tensioners and a word of warning.
Did my secondary tensioners today using the "zip tie" method. No significant problems except the struggle to remove the lower rear bolts on the cam covers.
But .... did have one panic moment. Got the new tensioners and bolts from SNG Barratt (UK) - excellent service, quick delivery, fair price. Probably should have looked in more detail, but although they only list one part number for each of the two tensioners - C2A1512 and C2A1511 for all engine models, they list three different part numbers for the bolts - C2Z2642, C2Z642 and JFB10607. I ordered C2Z2642 which are the old longer ones - I suspect that only the JFB10607 are the newer shorter correct length bolts. I noticed immediately - started to torque the bolts and the tensioners were still loose. Took a grinder to the bolts and within ten minutes had four which were now the correct length. But ........... one to watch out for.
I had "second generation" tensioners, and although they were probably good for a few more thousand miles, they were just beginning to crack so would almost certainly have failed eventually. Also bought myself peace of mind which is worth a few hours of relatively painless spannering !

Just a hint for those who forgot to order the correct bolts, the front timing cover bolts are the correct 'short' bolt length so 4 could be 'borrowed' to install the tensioners and then replaced when you obtain the correct ones.
At least you can install the cam covers and get it back together.
Or you can use a few 'washers or spacers' on the 'long' bolts to make up for the length on the front cover???
