That could work, I don't think I have ever tried pulling the alternator back through the wheel well

Just to update this post

As you can see from the following picture, the Voltage Regulator is burnt out.

My Alternator: LNC1800AA
Regulator: .....JLM20498

I spent quite a long time looking for a replacement Regulator, but couldn't find one so ended up buying new Alternator, £120 off Ebat, that was back in April 2023.
If anyone can point me in the right direction of a new regulator or give an alternative one, I may be able to save the old alternator, unless its totally gone of course.

This is the site I got the Alt and Regulator info from if its any help to anyone.

Its now 6 months since the new Alternator was in, all dash error codes disappeared or, were cleared using OBD, everything seemed ok, then this came up on the dash.

1. I removed the battery to check it was charging ok, it charged up to 13.47 Volts over a couple of days, so I presume that's ok
2. On idle the Volts were about 14.3.
3. There is a distinct smell from the engine bay, maybe its the Alternator
4. Odd low drone Noise from the Engine Bay
5 The Alternator is extremely hot to the touch, but maybe that's normal

The rebuilder I take my starters and alternators to uses TOYOTA parts. (DENSO)

She says they fit and work properly but I don't know exactly what she orders and installs.

This why I rebuild the original and avoid 'auto-part-store' rebuilds.

Hi Motorcarman, appreciate your comments, I could give the unit to someone else, but I like to fix things, it keeps my brain ticking, every fix is an interest, an achievement, I love to figure out why things work, when they fail and why they fail.

Although I will say, here in the UK, we don't have the competition you guys have in the US so were always paying excessively for everything, that's why we fix things, probably!
We used to have Automotive Electric Companies back in the 70's, 80's and 90,s who you could take your coils, alternators, distributors, starter motors, they are now all gone, those that will look at your parts will charge an earth. By the the time you have done that the cost is the same as a new one, and you never know if the jobs been done properly.

I have some Denso part numbers, maybe you could give her a call and ask what one would fit my Alternator

Denso 101211 7630/7631/7632 & 7633, these may be compatible with my alternator LNC1800AA

thank you
