Default Timing chain tensioners

Hi everyone. I'm thinking of looking at a 99 XJ8. It's being sold by a credit Union, and they don't have the service records. My concern is whether the tensioners have been replaced. Is there any way to tell without tearing into it?

Use that as leverage against the cost. Your speaking of $200-400 for the material (depending on where you buy) and if you take it to a shop, the additional hours of labor. They'll probably counter with some off the wall reasoning, but I still bet you get a better price and you can probably do the work yourself. There are many threads to guide you...blackonyx's in particular, which is in the link in my sig.
If you don't mind, how much are they asking and what condition is it?
