Default Transmission Dip Stick

I was under the impression that the x308 did not have a transmission dip stick - as I was poking around my 02 XJR looking into my CEL issues I found what looks like one under the center engine cover.

I did not do anything with it -- but it surprised me -- do some not have one?

I knew my x300 VDP inside and out -- but not for good reasons

Is it a dip stick or just a cap? They have a dipstick tube but no dip stick.

Steve -- I did not check

It could have been just a black cap -- silly to have the pipe and no DS

You have a W5A580 Mercedes gearbox. There is a dipstick tube but the stick is NOT supplied. You can push a flexible steel wire/cable to the bottom and read the level.
Engine running in PARK
Cold 10mm to 20mm
Hot 55mm to 65mm

You could buy one from a Mercedes dealer

Once the cap is removed, you break the seal and a new one is supposed to be fitted.
