Transmission Fault / Restricted performance
I got my voltage issues all squared away with the help of the people here, thanks! Now yesterday when I was out enjoying my Vanden Plas i got stcuk in a muddy parking lot and was spinning the tires trying to get out, and I shifted from R to D and there was a bang. Now it goes into reverse just fine but when i put it in drive, it does not want to engage in gear, unless I rev the motor to 1500 RPM, then there is a loud klunk and it seems to only go forward in second gear. I been perusing the forums for an answer and it seems as though I may have broke something in the transmission valve body. As I see other posts with those symptoms and they match my vehicles symptoms. Now this looks like something that I may be able to do myself from underneath the vehicle without pulling the transmission out of the vehicle. I been searching around the internet for replacement valve body units and have found some remanufactered valve bodies, and contacted the seller, and they informed me that I need to check the casting numbers on my valve body to ensure that it is the correct fit. He gave me a casting number of 1058427022. For a valve body for a P1397401 - ZF5HP24 valve body. Now I was wondering if Jaguar used different models of these ZF5HP24 transmissions. Do some of those transmissions have different casting bodys for the valve body in the Jaguars? I don't really want to rip the transmission open until I get the new one if I dont have to, I would much rather just do it all at once, remove the old one and install the replacement directly after removing the broken one. Does anybody know if that is the correct casting body for my vehicle? Or am I going to have to go tear it apart and leave it sit until i get the replacement. Also, would the vehicle go into restricted performance from this bad valve body issue or is that another issue entirely? Thanks
Thanks for your response. From looking at other threads on this forum I was under the impression that when the A drum goes that there is no forward movement, the vehicle will only go in reverse. I hope it's not the A drum, that would be very costly. I did see others who had the symptom of not going into gear until 1500 rpm where it was a valve body issue. Is there any way that I can determine if the A drum is blown out without removing the transmission?
so what is the option for me, am i better off having it repaired or replaced?
