Transmission gone or not?
Hi everyone,
I have a 1998 XJ8L with 116K which now only drives in 4th or D, it was slipping or thumpping between 2nd and 3rd for a couple of weeks, and yesterday I only have the 4th or D. (Check Engine lightand Transmission Fault appeared for the first time yesterday but not before). Pretty hard uphill. Anyway after reading too many posts, I am trying to figure out what to do. Is there any recalls on the transmissions or parts of the transmission (R478 for example)?
And if not, does this means thetransmission is gone and can't be fixed unless rebuilt? But then the rebuilt transmission could do the same from what I am reading out there and how long will it last? I brought the car to Dr Nicks in Milford, CT for an assessment and while waiting for the bad news, any help would be welcomed and appreciated.
