Default Transmission Position Sensor needed

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm looking to buy a used Transmission Position Sensor, or may be called a Neutral Safety Switch. Part # LJA6201AD.

I just had another Transmission coolant line replaced only to now need this switch. I can drive in 2,3,& 4, but not drive. Now Reverse seems to be going erratically.

Thanks,
John

is it the same as an XJR? If you can find it, I have one off a 1999 XJR

Default transmission sensor

Hi, It may be out of adjustment, if it was bumped during trans. oil line replacement; or you might be able to take it apart and clean it.

good luck

Fred60, Do you know the procedure to adjust or clean it, My mechanic doesn't usually work on Jaguars, so I'm not sure he will know.

Thanks,
John

Hi, RIXJ8, couldn't find how to adjust it, but did find this picture. Problem may be that the connector needs cleaning, or take switch apart and clean it.

good luck

Hi
I looked up the Transmission Controls and Linkage in the JEPC (Jaguar Electronic Catalog) - it appears the same switch (Rotary Switch)is used on both the XJ8 and XJR (usually if they are different than it is called out with NA Normal Aspirated as one part# and Supercharged as another part#).

I found 5 of these Transmission Rotary Switches on Ebay using search term "xj8 jaguar rotary switch".

Price range $99 to $250 - some are buy it now and some also are best offer.

Also there was one of these used one for sale on the forum in May (not sure if it was ever sold) LJA6201AD Neutral Safety Switch Position Sensor:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/p...-sensor-67584/

A new one is $501 with shipping from Gaudin Jaguar.com.

Here is a JPEG file of the JTIS step by step instructions for removing and installing the Rotary Switch (also described as Transmission Range Sensor):
