Default Trouble replacing rear driverside window

Having trouble replacing the rear driverside window on this '98 XJ8 VP. The window was busted out by some a**holes..

I've got it all taken apart and all, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get this huge glass in there. Any tips or walk throughs for this?

Thanks,
Dustin

I think you will find it goes in from the top, but you have to remove the inner top seal first, but I have never done one of these, only an earlier XJ

by inner top seal, do you mean the rubber/ velour channel that the window slides up and down in?

any help is greatly appreciated!

Not the vertical runners for the window but the horizantal whatzit inside and adjacent to the window glass (when it is there !). You will probably have to take off the door panel then the top trim piece if it is separate. This should reveal quite a wide slot, wider than the door glass.

Sorry I cannot be more help, I only have experience of earlier models

The exterior chrome strip and seal welt assembly needs to come off. It's held in place with tension clips on the pinch weld so all you need to do is get under it at the rear edge with a plastic pry tool and get it started up. Once you have it started use both hands and slowly pull it up. It comes off pretty easily.

Once that's out of the way you'll have a 3/4" wide gap to work with.

The glass then gets "tipped" in. I don't remember if you tip in the front or rear corner first or if it's done from the outside or inside but you'll figure it out.
