Default Trouble shooting wiring in the boot

Hey I was wondering how the switch works regarding the interior lights in my boot. Also what would cause my license plate light to act that way. Thanks.

As soon as the boot is lifted the lights flicker and the ones in the interior only turn on about half way opening the boot.

Check the wire integrity in the hinge.

Yes sir! That wiring loom on the right side hinge of the boot, has often
been found to be a problem with these cars.

I thought so I will give it a thorough check and inspect the harness. My other question would be is what activates the trunk light when you open the boot?

The light doesn’t just remain on when the boot is closed, only when you open the trunk correct.

Switch for the trunk light may not be able to be depressed (turned off) correctly when the trunk is closed. Had this problem on a 73 Bavaria years ago: the switch had so badly worn a hole in the plastic it would not depress and turn off the light. Put your cell phone on video, close the boot, then reopen and check what your phone has recorded.

On X300 vehicles at least, I believe the luggage compartment lights are controlled by the Body Processor Module. It gets its 'boot open' signal from a microswitch in the latch mechanism in the trunklid, AFAIK.
