The wire colours of the bunch of wires going up the trunk hinge on
the right hand side:

plate lamp, RW
trunk lamp, RW
trunk open switch, RW
trunk sense switch, RG
trunk lock actuator, O

Guess Jaguar got a deal on RW.

 

I'm fairly certain they are all on the same circuit, so it follows British wiring perfectly. Lucas "Let's make all the power wires brown". Once something goes into a harness, good luck.

Yup, I buy more RW wire for my kits than any other color.

Another obscure wiring observation: When they ran out of a color, they usually would use a white wire with colored heat shrink bands on the end....but every now and then they just substitute a totally random color.
This practice was especially prevalent in late 1999 and early 2000 models when they completely switched color coding standards.

 

copper used to be cheap ... now I look at a spool and go OMG.

scrabbling through the "wire box" right now trying to find suitable
wire for the harness repair this time of night ... not too many choices
