Default Trunk measurements?

Good evening everyone,

I am wondering if anyone would be willing to measure their XJR trunk for me? I need from the floor to the lid and from side to side between the hinges.

Thanks

Hi topshelf,

You have posted your request in the forum for the X308, the XJ saloons offered from 1997-2003. Is this the vintage of XJR for which you need trunk dimensions? If so, I'll be happy to measure our 2003 XJ8 for you (same trunk as an XJR).

When you say side-to-side between the hinges, do you mean the distance between the trunk lid hinges as opposed to the distance between the wheel wells?

Cheers,

Don

Good morning,

I am looking at buying a 1998 XJR. But it is in the next town over and the owner is currently away but will be back next week.

Yes, this is the vintage that I am looking at.

Yes, the distance between the hinges rather than the wheel wells. Although both would be nice.

Also, if you wouldn't mind, the depth from the front of the trunk to the rear. I am going to be building a very high end sound quality sound system in the car and want to get an idea of how much room I have for the sub enclosure.

Cheers,
Ron

Don't hold me to the last millimetre, but quickly measuring my boot (your trunk), it's as follows.

Clear height at the front closest to the rear seat: 440 mm

Distance between the inside faces of the hinges: 960 mm

Minimum distance side to side at the front closest to the rear seat: 990 mm

Distance front to back of the boot: 820 mm

Hope this helps.

Not to help with the measurements, but if you haven't had the experience with the X308s yet, bear in mind that you also have to contend with the rear firewall and gas tank, and the rear parcel shelf has limited openings by default to allow sound to pass into the cabin. There are some options, but generally they are rather well sealed so just keep that in mind, if you've never worked them before

Here are the photos of the stereo in my car. It might give you a feel for what you'll be up against

To supplement Nigel's metric measurements of his '98 LWB, here are Imperial measurements of the trunk on our '03 SWB:

Width between inside edges of trunk lid hinges: 37-3/8 inches

Depth from bulkhead trim to inner lip of trunk opening: 31-7/8 inches

Inner height at forward edge near bulkhead/backlight: 17 inches

Inner height at rear bend in trunk lid: 12 inches
