Newbie, wanting a xj8 for years....
Now its time to play...
First ? ... trunk pops on its own randomly, will find it open.
anyone experience this?

What year and model? If it is an Anthracite 01 Canadian model, I think I owned it.

Problem was the trunk release switch left of the steering wheel had some corrosion; or the ground in the trunk; or a stuck swith on the fob: tech in Virginia Beach never did find out what it was; but she kept working at it. Gets a bit pissy to keep climbing out at red lights to shut the damn thing.

 

When I first got my '03 XJ8 I had a similar issue -- turned out that it was ME and my KNEE accidentally hitting the release on the dash.

and it happens at random, i was in the garge doing something else and key in the house and all of sudden "Pop" lol

 

There was a thread (earlier this year?) describing a similar problem;

The wiring which runs along the boot hinge was broken, seems to be a common problem with this model.

... My '98 vdp trunk won;t pop.

Likely the same problem? Wiring along the boot hinge?

If it matters I'm at the beach and there is plenty of moisture...
