Default Used 1998 XJ8

Hey folks, wondering if I can get some opinions on whether this Jaguar I'm looking at is over priced. keep in mind it's in CAD.

It's a 1998 XJ8 with 130000km on it, which is 80778 miles. Hasn't been winter driven in five years and looks to be in great shape. He is asking $4700cad.
I'm a little new to the world of Jaguars and mostly wondering if this is an okay price? What would trade in value be on this car do you think?

The price is ok if it reflects a good maintenance history and records to back it up. The early years, you need to really pay attention to those details, especially things like tensioners and the A-drum in the transmission. Don't let the relatively low (compared to others) mileage fool you into thinking that it must be in great mechanical condition. Time is bad for parts just as miles are. With a decent history on it and if it's been properly up-kept, that price is probably pretty fair. If it doesn't, I'd keep looking since that price would be easily found for good condition cars elsewhere.

+1 with Charlzo, You need a record that the secondary tensioners as a minimum have been updated. You also need to know any service info for the tranny. Without those 2 pieces of info then it is just matter of time before major failure. The average home mechanic can do the tensioners and the trans can be serviced and updated with new valve body and solenoids reasonably, BUT if there is no record then they will need to be addressed right away, adding to the cost of the purchase,

I asked about the tensioners, and he said that it hasn't been done since he has owned the car so chances are it hasn't been done at all. As for the transmission, I'll ask, but what kind of price tag is usually associated with the work you mentioned?
