Default Using evap smoke machine on x308

My xjr is showing a small wrap system leak.

I do have a smoke machine and x308 does have an evap port. Do i just hook up and start looking or do i need to use scan tool to cycle any of the check valves? Thanks.

Not to sound obvious, but wouldn't that be stated in the instructions?

It is vehicle / make specific. Some cars you do, others you do not. Thus the question.

Some reading for you to understand the EVAP system.

Thanks. I just hooked up smoke machine to the evap port and found my leak. The metal pipe between the two carbon canisters had a pinhole leak. Can not even see the pinhole, just the smoke exiting. Put some JBWeld on there and seems to be fine.

Also had smoke coming from the little piece off of the right side vapor canister filter that looks like a little hat with holes in the bottom. I am thinking that this should be venting, unless it has a failed one way valve. However, give the amount of smoke it would have likely shown as a large evap leak code rather than small leak.

The smoke machine is an OTC LeakTamer that I picked up cheap on evilbay. Not a tool you use a lot but has come in handy a few times, Found the leak on Jag and recently an oddball intake leak on my Porsche 914, also great for tracking AC system leaks.

Thanks again.
