"V8" badge between the windows has to go!
Chris,
Thank you! The trim is actually spray painted. I got the idea from a terrific post by XJR Prototype called "My 00' XJR Refresh".
I taped off the chrome trim, lightly sanded it with 400 grit sandpaper to knock the sheen off, then applied 3-4 coats of Bumper Coater by SEM, in "Honda Black" color. It worked great! I did this about 8 months ago and the paint has held up really well. I used a little over 2 cans to paint all of my window trim, and expect to annually make little touch-ups.
I really like the black-out trim look on the XJR. I think it suits the lighter color cars well. Below is a picture of my car and Ian Clement's blue XJR at a local Caffeine and Gasoline get-together.

Whether it looks good or not, the only problem I see with this "V8" emblem is that in this day and age, you're not announcing anything special about the car. V8's have been around forever, so nobody is going to be impressed with the news that this is actually a "V8 car", not even back in '98; it borders into silly. It reminds me of the "automatic" emblem on some Mercedes (60's or 70's) in a (US) world where automatic trannys were the norm. What'd come next? "Fuel injection", "Radial tires" or "CD radio" signs?
And, then, they go from an unnecessary sign (V8) to not saying anything about the supercharger actually under the XJR hood (broadcast as "Kompressor" in other venues), what gives? Perhaps, purposely planned as the ultimate street stealth weapon...? Ahhh, but they did not forget to keep reminding the owner about it... just look at the rpm gauge... who's minding the store?
However, they did not omit the sign on its cousin, the Range Rover....

Supercharged on a Sport is fine, but I must admit it always brings a little smile to my face when I see that badge on a 'proper' Range Rover
The V8 badge on the X308's is more of a differentiation between them and the previous X300's

Actually, there are all kinds of "Supercharged" emblems out there for one to accomplish what Jaguar missed....
Cheers,
The biggest problem I have with the V8 badge is, the number of people who think I've added it as some sort of tacky auto store accessory. I have a massive issue with the fact that there is a beautiful V8 under the bonnet that sounds like a 2.0, 4 cylinder engine. My friend has a V6 that sounds meatier.
In the near future I'll be taking steps to release some of the sound from my engine, without making it too anti social.

Some of you probably know this.
Some of the XJ6's had plain B pillars.
No badges.
No holes!
I just picked up a beautiful pair
on eBay for $15.00 each.
I'll post up some pics when I install them.
If I had known that these plain versions
were out there, I would have gone
that route.

In chrome, or in black?
Personally, I love the blacked out trim on my XJR, and the V8 badge doesn't look too bad on there, as long as you keep it clean and polished.
On the chrome trim however... it definitely stands out more, and doesn't look anywhere near as tidy

I finally found the solution for my car:

Bought a pair of X300 Vanden Plas b-pillar trim.
NO HOLES!
Woo Hoo!
Total cost: $35.00 shipped via ebay for the pair in exceptional condition.
I wish I had known that the the X300's had the option of no emblems on the b-pillars, or I would have done this the first time.

I usually try and source a key fob or some other Jag jewelry that would fit the b-pillar void and then adapt it to cover the mounting holes for the V8 cheap badge. Secure it with epoxy or other automotive contact adhesive and you're done.
You've got something unique, tasteful and individual to your taste. Love it!

I like to remove my V8 badge as well. Do you have the part numbers available? Currently, I cannot find some for auction at all. The parts cataloge has some named "less holes" are these the right ones?
