My 99 XJR blew a head gasket so when I had the heads off I thought I'd clean them up a bit, well I found out if you turn the head upside down the lifters will fall out thus loosing your valve lifter adjustments so to prevent that from happening I took some 3/4 inch plastic pipe and some O rings to keep them in place and installed them in the heads.

 

That is the way I store and/or ship AJV8 heads if I remove the cams.

I have sold and shipped heads to someone that needs to install heads on a different 4.0 engine so the intake cam needs to be swapped. The exhaust cams can be used on all the 4.0 variants but the intakes are different (SC vs NA, AJ26/AJ27/AJ28).

A wood dowel rod can be used also.
