Default Variable Valve Timing P1384

Just pulled the following codes off a 2001 XJ8L with about 110k. P1384 and P1396. I am looking at AllData and I see some diagnostic info related to Solenoid Drive Circuit Fault, Solenoid Ground Fault, Oil Flow Fault and/or VVT Solenoid Fault. Since these two codes seem related I am thinking it is one issue.

Has anyone diagnosed an issue similar to this? So far I have cleared the codes and will keep an eye on the MIL indicator to see if they return.

AT THAT MILEAGE AND FOR THOSE CODES, TRY INCREASING YOUR OIL VISCOSITY, ITS FOR TOO LOW OF OIL FLOW BASICALLY AT IDLE.

Thanks, That was my first choice, since it is the least expensive and easiest. Just had the oil changed and went with 10W40. I had a quote from the Jag dealer on the VVT solenoid. He said for my model year I needed a VVT "Unit" that would run me $531.00.

problem is that wouldnt have fixed it since, its mostly low oil flow @idle from bearing clearances on crank and rods bleeding off alittle too much oil pressure.

Needed to resurect this old thread as I got these codes today. It's killing me to think I have to change my oil to some thicker stuff as I just put in Mobil One less than 500 miles ago.

Is there any additive that I can dump in to thicken it up safely or shall I say goodbye to another $30 for some fresh stuff thats thicker? BTW I already added Engine Restorer to the mix that's in there.

Thanks,

Ken

Maybe a dumb question but....

I've done main and rod bearings in other cars while the motor was still in the car using the cotter pin in the crank journal method.

It that same trick possible on this engine?

Default For a reference to the codes ...

Those are both a code for VVT Solenoid fault, 1384 is bank one (right side) 1396 is the other side. I'm wondering if Brutal drinks hot 50 weight for breakfast?
