vdp 2001 dtc p1646.
alldata indicates this code for a fuel pump 2 relay malfunction on sc cars only. however none of the problems sem to exist in, fact the car runs great.
But i can not get the car inspected in this state with the chech engine light on. I tried turning it off with my scanner and with in a few miles the engine light returned. I would like to fix the problem, does anyone have any suggestions. thank you for your time. rick

FJT, I saw this one too and scratched my head. Moisture in the empty relay socket? What about plugging a relay in, surely the supplementary fuel pump harness is insulated, and it would never get a signal to energize from a non-S/C ECM? Just goin' fishin'...

Those are possible. Could also be that the ECM was replaced with s/c one? Look at part number on ECM and compare it with the vcats label in the trunk by spare tire. Maybe under left side trunk carpet.

gentleman thank you for your help. I have taken the suggestion and checked the numbers on the ecm and the ecm number in the trunk and they are the same LNG1410 BC. Can putting a relay in the SC feul pump 2 position hurt anything? Also the tech who failed the car for inspection said the ecm would not reset. any thoughts? it seems like your car has the worng ecm in it or ... ive seen on newer cars.. if you program a car as a super charged.. and it doesnt have a super charger it will think it has one and give all these error codes for missing components like intercooler sensor missing or open circuit and 2ndmass airflow sensor missing and IAT 2 missing or open circuit.. have seen these things on new xk's . also it can be if your car started out as a xjr and was converted back to a N/A engine .. which is heavy in cost and pretty stupid to do..and high unlikely.. lol . putting a relay in there wud not do anything cause in you harness there is no number 3 pin in connector EM82 where the fault is happening cause the ecm is looking for a relay resistance but can't find one.. you can wire up a resistor.. give me your last 6 of your vin i wanna check something .

dear jag genius, Once again thank you for your time. the vin number for my car is F23041. I spoke with the tech at the local dealer, jake kaplans Jaguar, they called it a "ghost cade" and said the only way to rectify it is to reprogram the computer. What say you? thank you again. Rick

Returned from Jake Kaplan,s jaguar. after a complete diagnostic the tech suggested there may be two different codes with the same number. Their paper indicated the sc fuel pump problem, however a snap shot diagnostic of the running engine indicated P1646 as Heated oxygen sensor module, bank 1 open/shorted. the technician said he believes we should try to change the o2sensor bank 1 downstream and that may solve the problem. He also said that its a mystery how a sc code got in my computer. They did clear the code and flash the computer but the code returned almost instantly. So any thoughts about the o2 sensor? thanks , rick PS where is it located?
