This morning, on my way to the store, the car cranked more than usual before starting.
When I left the store, the car wouldn't start. Lights and radio worked fine, but nothing from the engine, not even any cranking.
I called a tow truck, he tried to jump start it with a battery box, didn't work. We checked the fuses, all good.
He said one thing that it could be is the chip key. So I had it towed back home, first thing that I tried was my spare key and boom, it started. But then I tried my old key again, and surprisingly, it started again.
The cables to the battery are tight and show no corrosion. The battery was tested as good a couple months ago, but it's almost 4 years old (Jan 2018).
Any ideas on what this could be? Could it still be a bad battery?
Check the power bulkhead connection in the engine bay just behind the right hand shock tower. It’s under a small rubber boot. Check both sides to make sure they’re clean and tight.
Was the starter cranking at a normal speed just the engine not lighting off after a longer period of time ?
On the chance the starter relay may have burnt contacts ( slower starter speed ) on the inside you can swap it with maybe the A / C , fog light or the headlights relays if the same relay part #
The bus protection module by the battery has a habit of the terminal nuts comming loose as well as the mentioned faults bulkhead under the hood
A fully charged new battery may have some positive effect of the chip in the hey in the equation but the jump start attempt may rule that as not the issue
